Railroading was a dangerous job. In 1911, the accident rate of track employees on the Nevada Northern Railway was a staggering 17%! In this gallery, visitors will learn about how the railroad adopted new safety measures to ensure better working conditions. On display are some of the railroad’s original medical supplies.
It took a lot of employees to maintain the railroad. In 1924, more than 275 people were working at the railroad, from track workers to clerks to engineers. This gallery contains the desk of Pearl Brown, who was hired as a bookkeeper and paymaster in 1924 and worked at the Nevada Northern Railway for over two decades. On display are some of her original payroll records that tracked the hours and miles of every employee.
